Hello Everybody!
My name is Adena. I'm 27 years old, and so far have several autoimmune conditions. Recently a couple more have come on, and it's been a little hard to deal with everything at once. I started therapy for my depression, and last session he suggested that I find an autoimmune community to talk to. I totally didn't think they existed until now, so here I am
So let's see, I have:
-Asthma (since birth)
I have this controlled with singulair and my emergency inhaler for the most part.
-Allergies (since birth)
I do not have celiacs, but I'm allergic to just about everything else. I have probably every outdoor and indoor allergy (trees, grass, dust, cleaning products, animals etc). I am allergic to vegetables and fruit as well as nuts (mean death if you ever want to kill me) and whole grain/whole wheat. You get the idea.
-Alopecia Areata (started age 23)
I'm bald and have very little body hair left. It's nice in the summer, and it's especially nice that I don't really have to shave anymore (except of course the last of my eyebrow stubble, but that'll go eventually) It was obviously rough when all my hair fell out, but I'm ok with it most days now.
-Hashimoto's thyroiditis (diagnosed age 26)
I have this under control with synthroid as far as I know.
-IBS (since birth)
This one is pretty annoying. I have the heartburn under control with aciphex, but the pills cost 50 a month. I'm hoping a generic comes out soon. The other stuff is well... sort of life dominating. bland foods are <3
-Insulin resistance (diagnosed age 26 but I've had blood sugar issues since birth)
My entire family is diabetic, so I know what's coming. I try to not eat a whole lot of sugar, but it's difficult to eat healthy with my limited diet.
-degenerative disc disease (diagnosed a couple weeks ago)
I've been out of work with severe back issues for a few months. It's finally showing improvement (this is me very very happy that it's finally letting up a tiny bit. woooo!) Good thing the chiropractor is a totally nice guy because I see him quite a lot
-Raynaud's (started 2-3 weeks ago for the first time)
I don't know if it's primary or secondary, but I'm guessing it's secondary knowing my history. I see a Rheumatologist next week to find out. This is probably the scariest thing that's ever happened to me, and it's not restricted to just my fingers and toes. So, I'm not really sure if it's truly considered raynaud's. My entire leg or my entire arm has gone numb even when not cold. Warm water does scary things to my feet and hands though (makes them look like grape koolaid), so I'm guessing that is considered Raynaud's?)
-joint problems (since birth)
I don't know a whole lot about what has caused these issues, but I've sprained both ankles at the same time just by walking before, and my knee was completely dislocated just from playing when I was young.
-Possible endometriosis (I have a 5cm mass in me right now that has yet to be completely diagnosed - another MRI tomorrow)
-Possible fibromyalgia (my pain is pretty intense in places unrelated to my back)
- Possible other things (eep)
My friends have always said "You should be in a bubble, Adena" and that's how I've felt my whole life. I'm very happy to possibly meet other "bubble dwellers" and share experiences. Nice to meet you! |

| Well, unfortunately I am new to all of the autoimmune stuff. In fact never read heard anything about it all my life till i got sick this past Aug. and havent been the same. Today I took a trip to the local health food store, I learned a lot but still have lots to learn. " My family doctor has a saying, Sadly, I can tell you everything you dont have." Just wanted to say hello, and maybe if you havent yet take a trip to your local health food store. Good luck. |

I understand what your going through. I have been to more doctors then I can count.
Allergies: cats, strawberries, nuts, shell seafood, latex, iodine, mold, mildew, oak and many perscription drugs. (mostly antibiotics and pain meds) The list seems to keep growing as I get older.
Asthma: age 11 (taking flovent and advair)
Sinus: Singular
Reflux: Prilosec, pepcid
Sarcadosis: 2002-2007 in lungs then gone. 2007 in eyes.
Chiaria Malformation 2: 2000
I am not waiting for the results for my Lupus test.
I have several of other stange things occure with my body, too much to mention.
diabetes and all types of cancers run through my family. I have lost my father, brother, aunt and one sister. I currently have a sister, uncle and aunt living with cancer.
My sister who had ovarian cancer which is now on her bowels and stomach is in the hospital as we speak having hernia repair.
My aunt who has breast cancer is now in the hospital with pnemonia and a infection.
I'm trying to tie some of this together and figure out what is going on. I'm the only one out of a family of seven girls and one boy with these issues. _________________ Believe, dream, will....and put it in the hands of God. |
